Tiny plastic particles are eaten by land animals and marine life, either by accident or after being mistaken for food, meaning it ends up in our food too. Plastic has also been found in tap water, as well as being responsible for the increase in serious disease transmission. What's worse, is this existing plastic waste will be around for centuries if a major clean up isn’t undertaken and changes aren’t implemented, irreparably damaging the eco-systems that keeps our world breathing.

Bioplastics are plastics which are either made from biomass (eg vegetable starch, vegetable oil, straw, woodchips or food waste) rather than fossil fuels at the beginning of their life (“bio-based”) or which break down into organic biomass at the end of their life (“biodegradable”), or both. They provide the option to source locally, and don’t require the refinement of oil to produce.

Smaller strips break down faster than bigger ones, just like when you boil your potatoes. They’ll still cook, but it will take a bit longer.
If you have a home compost, pop the strips in the bin and remember to give it a stir every now and again. If you don’t have one at home, you can search your local composting facility and schedule a drop off.
